Yamaha Tenere 700 is finally giving seriously dirt-oriented adventure riders what they’ve been asking for long earlier. It’s road-legal, long-range dirt squirting middleweight adventure bike. The bike looks more over a Dakar rally type and doesn’t weigh as much as the giant Super Tenere 1200. But Yamaha says the new bike won’t be available in USA until 2020.
The new Yamaha bike is inspired by the remarkable levels of worldwide interest generated by the T7 concept. Yamaha has created Tenere 700 World Raid, a prototype model which is being used to develop the final specification of the production model.
The Specs
The power of Yamaha Tenere 700 comes from a 689cc four-stroke parallel-twin engine. There are no official performance numbers for the Tenere 700 at this time. But in the MT-07, this engine makes 73 horsepower and 50 pound-feet of torque.
With its compact design and linear torque delivery, this specially developed version of highly acclaimed CP2 engine gives plenty of power for strong performance on the tarmac and dirt. On the other hand, its mass-centralized layout and low weight contributes to the bike’s nimble handling characteristics. The prototype also features a custom-made rally-style Akrapovič exhaust that reinforces the bike’s rugged looks and gives a deep and powerful tone.
While a new double cradle tubular steel frame is pleasant, slim, and compact with a wheelbase of 62.5 inches. The point is to be light enough to be toss-able and strong enough to take a beating. The bike has 9.4 inches of ground clearance. The bike’s slim, long-range fuel tank with a 4.2-gallon capacity promises an average range of 217 miles. It means the Tenere 700 can go pretty far off the beaten path without stopping for fuel.
